Write an essay, go to jail - part 2

This is a follow up on a post from a week and a half ago:

The background:

Allen Lee wrote a disturbing essay. His teacher was concerned and talked to her supervisor. The principal called in the police. They arrested Allen and threatened him with jail.

The update:

Allen has returned to school, and threats of jail were dropped. CBN.com reports:

"A high school senior arrested for writing a violent essay for an English class can return to school and will be allowed to graduate with his class, his attorney says."

Later in the article is another quote by the attorney:

"'We all reached the same conclusion, which is that he's not a threat and never was a threat and he should be treated as such.'"

I like Kevin Lyons' column on this. Kevin concludes with:

"... (about Allen) this would be a good time to start growing up. Some readers of last week’s column took issue with me calling 18-year-old Lee a child. But if you read his essay, you’d be hard pressed to call him an adult or a man. This whole situation could have been averted if Lee learned a little respect for himself, for women and for his teacher, whether he likes an assignment or not."

What Allen wrote was inappropriate, and it was reasonable for the school to react to the essay. But the school went way too far.
