As I've posted in the past, I liked reddit. If you are find reddit useful, you might want to check out this discussion of why sites like reddit are popular. Kevin Kelly explains some of the history of these sites, and how they work. Basically these sites allow readers to rank sites, and the more popular sites rise in the rankings.
He calls them "Consensus Web Filters" while acknowledges that these types of sites don't have their own agreed upon name, yet. Maybe his term will catch on.
The most interesting thing in the article is his list of consensus sites. I already knew about digg and reddit, but the rest were new to me.
If you haven't been using one of these sites, check his list and see if you find one you like.
