Janine was called this morning by a local television station. We are going to be interviewed in an hour about the recent court ruling. I have been aware of the recent case, but haven't studied it.
I do have the HSLDA's copy of the ruling. I've printed it off and will skim it.
If you have been following the court case closely, could you send us email, or leave a comment, pointing to a good summary?
Thanks.
And wish us luck.

When I first heard of the CA ruling I jumped to your blog to see what you had written on it but didn't see anything yet!
I came over from Homeschool Blog Buzz. Here is the court info on the case: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/opinions/documents/B192878.PDF
and this article with more information: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57679.
Hope that helps.
This is all most disconcerting. I have filed an R-4 for the first time this year.
Please let me know how the interview goes. Blessings to you.
Good luck, after the fact. I was thinking about you. My ISP was acting weird so I couldn't leave a comment earlier.
I have some stuff on my blog about the CA case. Also a link to a talk show about it.
The California Homeschool Network has some good information here.
Some other articles/blog posts to read:
*"Response to Ruling of CA Court of Appeal" from HSLDA.
*"California Update (or It’s Not Illegal to Homeschool)" from Tammy over at Just Enough & Nothing More.
*"Homeschooling in California" from Joseph Knippenberg of the Ashbrook Center blog "No Left Turns".
I have posted some information about the case here along with relevant links:

Governor Schwarzenegger weighed in on the appellate court ruling today with this statement:
“Every California child deserves a quality education and parents should have the right to decide what’s best for their children. Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children’s education. This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts and if the courts don’t protect parents’ rights then, as elected officials, we will.”

As I've seen on several blogs and have discovered in my reading of articles, there are parenting issues that are at stake here. Crimson Wife has some of that information listed, and it is on other blogs as well. This family has apparently had several referrals to CPS. Now a referral does not mean abuse is taking place, it means there is a suspicion of abuse....but apparently there were several referrals.
Not every family is cut out for homeschooling, and we know that. We cannot get in a twist just because one family was found to be unfit to homeschool.
Everyone - thanks for the help and suggestions.
Rose - I'm not real worried, but one way to read the ruling is that homeschoolers can not use the private school option. I do think the ruling will be overturned.
This is also found this video interesting, given the source:

It is from a site that gives legal summaries to lawyers in CA so that they can maintain their continuing education credits.
