No Child Left Behind puts a lot of pressure on schools to have good test scores. I think the obvious answer would be to improve teaching and make sure the students are getting an education.
Mooresville High School, of Indiana, appears to have a different approach. They pushout students out they don't feel will test well and tell the parents that they are now homeschooling. Susan documents this in her post Pushouts again, as noted in our neighboring state of Indiana. And Valerie is also covering this in Indiana school says parents must homeschool.
Homeschooling is a great solution, and it may be that these children will be better served by homeschooling, but the public schools should not force the parents to homeschool.

Teaching children at home can be okay. However, I think school districts should also put more time and effort into finding individuals with the desire to teach these children. Currently, they just hire anyone.
It does appear a "free and appropriate education" isn't for all but those considered acceptable test takers.
If they're failing the kids in the schools, why are they making it so much harder for them outside the schools too?
I wish pushouts were a rarity, but think it likely isn't here in the US.
This is the first time I have heard of the term.
Have the courts ruled on this?
