Below are a couple articles on the growth of homeschooling. (They were found by Google alerts)
The State Journal reports that homeschooling is growing strong in West Virginia. Beth Gorczyca writes that the number of children being homeschooled has exploded from 588 in the 1991 to 1992 school year to more than 5,500 children in the 2004-2005 year.
News-Record has a similar article on the growth of homeschooling in North Carolina. Morgan Josey writes "The total number of home schools increased by 7 percent statewide during the 2005-06 school year."
At times I wonder where homeschooling will peak. Will enough parents recognize the problems with public school and be willing to put in the effort that some day we'll get to 10% or 20% of the children being homeschooled? Or have we already started to tapper off and we will stop closer 5%?
My best guess is homeschooling will continue to grow for awhile. This is largely because public schools will continue to get worse. Additionally, homeschooling is more accepted as a viable option and there are more support groups. So more parents don't see it as a quack, fringe event, but as something normal parents can, and should do.
