Thomas Sowell on academic freedom

Thomas Sowell has a great column, Classroom brainwashing. He writes about the recent issue of Jay Brennish claiming he should have freedom of speech in the classroom. Thomas Sowell points out that this isn't true for any other job. You wouldn't continue to pay a plumber if he came over and talked about why you should be a communist.

People get confused between freedom of speech outside of the classroom, which teachers should have, and freedom of speech in the classroom, which teachers should not have. While the students are in the classroom, the teachers should be teachign the course material.
