Pictures from another planet

It has been awhile since I blogged about the Astronomy Picture of the Day web site. There have been some great pictures recently.

One of the interesting things to me about the pictures from Mars is that the landscape looks similar to some deserts I've been to.

This is a great illusion, it looks like a gas cloud is about to eat a galaxy. (There was a Star Trek episode, original series, with a doomsday device which ate planets.)

This is just beautiful.

One of the first things most people learn to recognize in the sky is the stars in Big Dipper. I was surprised to learn they are moving together.

If you haven't checked out the Astronomy Picture of the Day web site, give it a try. I've been hooked for years now.
