NJ.com has an article on the Hidden pay for school superintendents. On top of fairly high salaries, $150,000 a year and up, there are a number of additional perks that school superintendents can get. A New Jersey State Commission of Investigation released a report on the widespread padding and manipulation of compensation.
This is just another example of school waste.
At one level I don't mind if someone is making a great salary, if he performs, but for the last several decades the public school system has been performing badly.
One of the key points in the report is that the total compensation is often not reported to the public. The public hears one number and thinks that is OK, but the truth is these superintendents are often making way more. Tax payers don't realize just how much they are paying.
