The schedule for the Carnival of Homeschooling

Currently we have the future carnivals scheduled:

-----------

I have split the schedule off from the post on Where to send submissions. Spunky suggested setting up a gmail account which is where people would always send submissions to, and then have it forward to the current host. This way submitters won't have to dig out a different email address each week. The details on where to send submissions won't change any more. This post will change over time.

Do you need a host for March 7? Although I'm new, I may could do that. Don't know what your criteria is, but I'm offering. Also, PalmTree Pundit said this submission needed to come to you? Not sure, but am going to leave it here, just in case.

A prime example of how, and why unschooling can work so well.

Thank you for your time.

For people who are interested in hosting a Carnival of Homeschooling, please check out the guidelines below and then contact me via email:

----------------------------
I've posted my goals and expectations for general participants for the Carnival of Homeschooling:

http://whyhomeschool.blogspot.com/2006/01/participating-in-carnival-of.html

In addition to the expectations for participants, here are my additional expectations for hosting the Carnival of Homeschooling:

1) Expect hosts will read:
http://www.10000birds.com/hostwiththemost.htm

2) Hosts will put out a wide call for submissions. The greater the variety of posts, the more our readers will learn, and the more chance they will find something interesting.

3) Hosts will respond promptly to submissions. With all the problems of spam and filters, it is common courtesy to reassure our participants their submission were received.

4) Hosts will have carnival up in a timely manner. Submissions are due Monday evenings at 6:00 PM PST. The goal should be to have it within 12 hours. This means the host will get much of the work done during the previous week as submissions come in.

5) The host will work to promote the participants. Hosts should minimize self promotion.

6) Promotion of that week's carnival is the part of the responsbility being the host. As the carnival's organization I'll also help. And I expect other hosts to help.

7) At the end of each carnival the host will point to the host for the next carnival, and how to enter submissions.

---------------

There have been a few questions about what submissions are approriate for the Carnival of Homeschooling and under what situations can a host reject a submission. I've really struggled with creating a concise set of guidelines.

There some obvious things which eject a submission, for example:

1) The submission isn't about homeschooling
2) The submission has already appeared in a carnival of homeschooling
3) The submission is vulgar or racist
4) The submission is OK, but from an inappropriate site, like a porn site, white supremiscist, terrorist, and so on.
5) The submission promotes an illegal activity

But there are other areas where the host may be reluctant to include a post. I tried to craft some rules and guidelines on what seemed reasonable. It started feeling like the tax code, too complicated. We are all volunteers, working together.

After several hours of thought and talking with my wife I have come to the conclusion that for that week, I'm just going to trust the host's judgment. The host has complete editorial control for that week.

The homeschool movement has brought about (or restored) many superior, efficient, and exciting teaching approaches. Most of you reading this were taught in a public school using the traditional textbook method. Blot out all your preconceived ideas of how you think school should be and your previous experience of education.

I enjoy the COH, and I would love to post the current carnival at my blog each week. Do I need to keep an eye on the schedule to do that? Or is there an easier way? Please leave a comment at my blog in reply. Thanks!

Diamond, one option is to send me your email address. I have a notification mailing list that gets told each week where the latest carnival is being hosted.

A second option is to go to:

http://blogcarnival.com/bc/widget_2_demo.html

and select the Carnival of Homeschooling. This will generate the HTML that you can add to the blogroll on your template, and as you look at your own blog you'd see the latest carnival. For details check out:

I can't think of any other options.

Hi is there a theme schedule?

In general most carnivals don't have a theme. One of the nice things about blog carnivals is the great variety.

Hi there friends. I just want to let you know I will be hosting the Carnival at Walking Therein. I am blogging there more regularly than at Seeking Rest.
The url for that is pretty easy: http://jacquedixon.com :P

Have a great week, and I am looking forward to hosting!

I'm looking forward to participating in the future. Do the hosts name the themes?

Henry Cate said...

Kristen, normally the hosts don't reveal the themes until the carnival comes out. I know in my case I often haven't figured out the theme until the day I put the carnival together.

Hello

I would be happy to host future Homeschool Carnivals over at Every Bed of Roses. I am away for the next three weeks but am happy to host after that.
