The Carnival of Education this week was hosted by The Science Goddess. It was presented in a delightful way, the setting was a faculty meeting with the teachers talking about various issues (links to various blogs) on their minds. The following are a couple of the links I found especially interesting:
Kim had a long discussion of the eternal Socialization question from a Christian perspective. She made several good points. I liked this: "Honestly, I wonder how many people who ask this question have ever met and interacted with an adult (or even a teen or child) who was homeschooled. They are rarely accused of being backward or socially dysfunctional. In fact, they generally interact well with a much wider variety of people than those who went to an age-segregated school."
Scott Elliott has a post on the divide between teachers and parents. Scott talks about a number of situations in which it was parents v. teachers, instead of them working together. I wonder if a fundamental part of the problem is both sides think they are in charge. Parents pay taxes and expect their children to be given an education; they are fustrated with the poor education their children are getting. Teachers feel they are they experts and don't like to be challenged, or told they are doing a poor job.
