Where do we get growth from?

From Dan Galvin's Thought For The Day mailing list:

We find comfort among those who agree with us -- growth among those who don't.

Yes, but... I wish this were more true than it is. Too often, I've found, those who disagree with me can't be bothered to articulate why. I watched a fascinating documentary last night, for instance, and the comments sounded like talking to the person could yield some fascinating discussion. But, instead, people on both sides mostly just said things like, "Wow, he's so wrong," or, "This guy is so right on!" ...not very helpful.

Part of the trick is finding those who disagree with us, who know what they are talking about, vs. those who don't know what they are talking about, but disagree with us.
