This is not good news

Jay P. Greene reports that the U.S. Dept. of Ed. is Breaking the Law

----------
The 1979 law by which the U.S. Department of Education is authorizedin its current form clearly prohibits these activities.  It states (in section 103b): “No provision of a program administered by the Secretary or by any other officer of the Department shall be construed to authorize the Secretary or any such officer to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system, over any accrediting agency or association, or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials by any educational institution or school system, except to the extent authorized by law.” (emphasis added)

So, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Education says that they are funding development of curriculum, but the Department is expressly not authorized to direct, supervise, or control curriculum.  They are are also prohibited from directing, supervising, or controlling textbooks or other instructional materials.
----------

One of the problems with many in government is that they feel if they are doing something "good" then they don't have to follow the law.  I'm sure someone in the Department of Education recognizes they are breaking the law, but because it is "for the children" they don't feel they should have to follow the law.

I remember last year someone asking a Congressman where in the Constitution it allowed for a bill he was supporting and he admitted he didn't really know, or care.

We need to work to encourage every politician and government worker to obey the law.

This is outrageous, but the average American is barely capable of outrage. Why can't people see the danger of ignoring the Constitution? What keeps our nation great is that the government is subject to law, but that foundation continues to erode. Thanks for pointing this out. It may do us no good, but we can at least shout ourselves hoarse over it.

Tay - I am afraid too many citizens are comfortable and don't see the dangerous direction our country is heading in.

At times I get angry and frustrated with the laws our politicians pass, but I then remember that if the American citizens wanted to they could get the country back on course in just a couple elections.

I've frequently been involved in various elections. I"m now considering running for office.
