Judy makes a great point about the issue of a school banning bag lunches

In Bagging Bagged Lunch Judy makes a great point:

----------
Do you wonder what the teachers at these schools eat?
The teacher's lounge probably has a pot of coffee (aka: caffeine) going and a microwave for them to heat up the frozen chemical laden over processed crap they bring to school... and diet products with Nutrasweet (a known neurotoxin) and other additives. And have you taken a peek in the teacher's refrigerator? Bet you'll find diet soda. Where is the outcry for THEM to eat healthy?
----------

As Judy says, this intrusion by the government schools into a place they have no business is yet another reason to homeschool.

Judy is right! :)

Honestly, it's not about the nutrition. I made the point in my own blog not too long ago that bad toileting habits are WAY MORE unhealthful than not eating veggies for a few meals. I think it just doesn't give any contracting company a profit to really work on that aspect of public health. Not to mention, if all the children started washing their hands before and after meals, after using the restroom, and after playing outside, only think of the school's water bill!

No, they don't do this stuff for the kids. I'm sure there are some misguided people who think they are, or are fooling themselves... but that's not the real reason.

Oh, please don't give them any more ideas!

When I was teaching, I was told by admin that it wasn't fair for me to have a pepsi sitting on my desk, because the students couldn't have one, too. My thoughts were

a) why can't they have one, too?

b) I am a grown-up. I have gone to college, earned my degree, and now get paid a pittance to try to get 150 bored teens excited about New Mexico history without deviating from the textbook that frankly bores the heck out of me. I have earned the right to drink a Pepsi when my throat runs dry.

As for school lunches, you can put whatever healthy food you want in them, and much of it will just end up in the trash. Parents know what their individual kids will and should eat!

Ha ha ha! Please don't tell me they'd take my silly and snarky idea! :P

Part of me is tempted to come up with as many silly ideas as I can, just to help the government schools dig themselves farther into the hole.
