An unhomeschooler does well

Astra Taylor is a film director up in Canada. She recently gave a talk about her experience of being an unhomeschooler:

I listened to the first fifteen minutes. Very interesting and entertaining. (I'm at work and my lunch is over, so I need to get back to work. Oh, ignore the post time, I'm scheduling this talk for a little later in the afternoon.)

Whew, I finally listened to the whole thing! I thought it was a very enjoyable talk, and she made some good points. At the same time, I wasn't thrilled with her characterization of homeschooling, which I felt she didn't really know much about (but then that wasn't the point of her talk either). While I appreciated her insistence that unschooling and homeschooling are two different things, I felt that she was unaware of how much the two bleed into each other in real life. But then how would she know that? :) Thanks for the link, very interesting.

Ooh, another thought--she says that unschooling is very hands-off, but I've always thought of it as much more work than other forms of homeschooling; I suppose it depends on the unschooler.
