I had a lot of friends in college who were homeschooled. They said one of the biggest challenges of leaving high school was the cost of homeschooling. Their parents had to pay for books, supplies, technology, etc. But they said it was definately worth it. They said they saved money by reselling their homeschooling books to the book buyback site http://www.MyBookCart.com
Our experience has been that homeschooling is a bit expensive, but far cheapr than private schools. And it doesn't have to been all that much more than public schools. With public schools you are constantly being asked to donate money. Also we save a ton of money by taking vacation in the off seasons.
