This seems like a big mistake - 16-year-old homeschooler arrested

Homeschooler Has Due Process Right Stripped Under Patriot Act reports:

----------
Oxford, N.C. — Sixteen-year-old Ashton Lundeby’s bedroom in his mother’s Granville County home is nothing, if not patriotic. Images of American flags are everywhere – on the bed, on the floor, on the wall.
But according to the United States government, the tenth-grade home-schooler is being held on a criminal complaint that he made a bomb threat from his home on the night of Feb. 15.
The family was at a church function that night, his mother, Annette Lundeby, said.
“Undoubtedly, they were given false information, or they would not have had 12 agents in my house with a widow and two children and three cats,” Lundeby said.

----------

The mother speculates that someone hacked into their homecomputer and sent out a message pretending to be Ashton.

The police response seems way over reacting. The mother has been allowed little contact with her son. The police didn't find any kind of material for making bombs, but they've kept the young man in a juvenile facility.

Part of the problem seems to be that wide applicance of the Patriot Act. When in doubt the officials seems to assume the worse. Maybe Ashton is a secret Islam plant, switched at birth, just ready to start mass producing bombs. My guess is Ashton is no risk to society, and anyone with a brain should have let him go, while following up on the origin of the bomb threat.

Even if Ashton did something stupid, I doubt there is any real risk.

Love this quote!

"I" have sent out emails for Viagra. I think something like "Canadian pharmacy 4u" in the subject line. Which is scary.

My husband D is a programmer and says sending emails with a false address would be very easy.

Or maybe he didn't say that. Oh, no, must have been someone else and if you're from the secret service and reading this, I think I saw it on CNN somewhere. Yeah, that's it.

I've heard from friends that it is fairly easy to fake email from other people.

It appears that there was some reason to think the bomb threat came from his computer.

I'm worry that others will might start imitating this.
