My mother sent me a link to a news report on Hazel McCallion, who has been the major of the City of Mississauga for an incredible 31 yeas. The city seems well run. She wants a balance budget for each year, and the city has money in the bank. In the last election she received over 97% of the vote!
It would be nice to have more mayors like her.

Saw this piece on the Mercer Report and loved it. What an inspiring lady!
Yes, she is amazing.
I wonder what it is that helps some people become a statesman, while so many others become politicians?
Hi there,
Regarding your mission statement, "On this blog we explore why homeschooling can be a better option for children and families than a traditional classroom setting."
The fact that you took a slick infommercial by a Canadian comedian and accepted that as gospel without the slightest skepticism on your part is an appalling reflection of your homeschooling.
You did ZERO homework on Hazel McCallion.
Frankly I can't think of a Mayor in the Free World with as slick a Public Relations Spin Department as McCallion has.
In addition, her security guards are allowed to use their discretion without oversight from pesky outside scrutiny.
All confirmed through Freedom of Information.
You have heard about Freedom of Information, right?....
Anonymous - you seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Why did you jump to conclusions about my post?
It was not a PhD paper, but I did some research. I didn't accept the Youtube post as gospel. I spent over a half hour poking around on the internet. The websites I found indicated that Hazel was a popularly supported Mayor. In my post I linked Hazel's name to two of the URLs.
The Wikipedia entry reports that she received 92% of the votes in 2006. Is that true?
Hazel might be slick, and she might also be good.
Can you provide documented details about why you don't like Hazel McCallion?
