Do you live in Hawaii? Can you vote?

One of the things I've noticed about blogging is the high turnover. Each day thousands of people start blogging. Services like Blogger make it easy to start, and provide the service for free.

But the down side is each down thousands stop blogging. The estimates I've seen claim that about half of all blogs are inactive or dead. There are several favorite blogs that I enjoyed week after week, waiting to see what else would be posted, only to realize after a month or two the blog had died. Or some times the blogger would have a last post saying it had been fun, but they were moving out.

Rarely have I seen someone take a long break and then jump back into blogging. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Malcolm Kirkpatrick has returned to the blogging world. The Harriet Tubman Agenda is again active.

Malcolm has a very conservative approach to public education, a philosophy that I am sympathetic to. He was a public school teacher. He writes about some of the problems with public schools and issues on journalist and vouchers.

I was surprised to learn Malcolm is doing more than blogging about the problems in public schools. He is trying to fix them. He is running for a seat on the Hawaii Board of Education. If you live in Hawaii and vote, check him out.

Malcolm: best of luck to you in the campaign. And welcome back to the blog world.

Thanks for that info. We vote in Florida, but I've passed it along to friends here.

Thanks for the kind words.

I recommend the experience of running for office, however seriously you take the contest. You will have driven home just how little voters know about the candidates for whom they vote. On top of the insubstantial information behind many voters' decisions, you have the fact that politicians lie. On top of that, policy requires compromise, so whatever they promise, they will probably not deliver. On top of that, the bureaucracy inevitably filters and interprets policy. Even small districts cannot be as nimble as individual families.

Keep on homeschooling.

Hey! Sarah Palin hails from Alaska. Alaska subsidizes homeschooling (what else can you do when 20 miles of frozen river lies between your cabin and the nearest school?).

Often times life gets in the way of regular blogging. Ever since I got pregnant again, I simply haven't has as much energy to devote to my blog.

There are many, many good things in life we can do. One of our big challenges is picking. Bringing a new life into the world is one of the most important choices.

Best wishes.
