Advice on teaching your children science

Adam Savage has 3 Ways to Fix U.S. Science Education:

----------
1. Let students get their hands dirty.
2. Yes, spend more money on science.

3. Celebrate mistakes.
----------

The advice is for teachers in public schools, but homeschoolers can easily do the above three items. Check out the article for details.

Celebrate mistakes. We just did a salt crystal experiment but they left it outside when it rained so it didn't create crystals like it was supposed to. The oldest said in an almost cheerful voice "Looks like we have to do it again." Better than us telling them they have to do it again. I was actually pretty pleased to hear him say that.

While I agree that science is worth the investment, you can also have lots of learning with cheap experiments;).

robert - It sounds like you've done a great job in teaching your son. He doesn't fall apart when things don't go as expected!

nerdmom - Good point.
