Our challenge - to be proactive and make a difference

I like this quote from Dan Galvin's Thought For The Day mailing list:

The world is a dangerous place to live -
not because of the people who are evil
but because of the people who don't
do anything about it.
- Albert Einstein

It is along the same lines as:

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

- Edmund Burke

This reminds me of a line from a movie:

"People say that evil prevails because good men fail to act... but they should say, 'Evil prevails.'"

We live in a fallen world, and while we do need to act, the evil remains. Just one more instance where I find myself longing for heaven ...where I too will no longer fall.

Along the same lines, I got this today (probably so did you, since I think I got on this word of the day thing when you posted about it some time back):

It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little. -Sydney Smith, writer and clergyman (1771-1845)

Charmaine - thank you for the kind words.

Eleanor - I hadn't heard that quote before. I like it. It reminds me of:

"Do not commit the error, common among the young, of assuming that if you cannot save the whole of mankind, you have failed."-Jan de Hartog, playwright and novelist (1914-2002)
