Anyone used Scholarships.com?

We're four years away from our oldest heading off to college. We've started thinking a bit about the cost. Has anyone checked out Scholarships.com? Stephanie at Stop the Ride! blogged about scholarships and mentioned it. Are there other good resources for finding scholarships online?

It's okay. You have to be careful with a lot of scholarship sites as they spam you a lot and a lot of these scholarships are simply unwinnable.

I would try some of the sites that have scholarship promotions going on. My daughter just used Cappex.com which had a promo and it's for college admissions and also used prepme.com last year for her online ACT preparation.

I don't know about the others, but Scholarships.com doesn't "SPAM" people. You can opt-out of receiving email from them if you'd prefer- either right when you register or later on by going to their Privacy Policy page and following the instructions. Scholarships.com also has tons of other information on their site that you don't even need to register to see, not to mention a college search.

I tried Scholarships.com and after wading through what seemed like an infinite number of for-profit university lead gen forms (which you physically have to opt-out of bc they default select that you want to receive emails from them) you get a few relevant scholarship results. They ask for way too much personal information so they can sell it to marketers, and in exchange I got 10 or so scholarship results. Some of which provided no information and linked me straight to a Facebook page (i.e. Ronald Reagan Scholarship). Shortly thereafter I started receiving a plethora of email solicitations from crappy universities. Personally, I will never use it again. I had an similar experience at Fastweb.com too. These guys just peddle your information to the highest bidder knowing that finding scholarships is a pain and that a lot of people will forfeit their personal info in exchange. A bit longwinded but I hope that helps.
