I was going to start off this post with "Happy Vetrans Day!" But that seems inappropriate. We say "Merry Christmas." and "Happy New Years."
How do you greet people on Vetrans Day?
I received the poem below from Dan Galvin's Thought For The Day mailing list. It is a good reminder of why we celebrate Vetrans Day.
----------
It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier,
Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.
Father Dennis Edward O'Brian, USMC

The Headmistress provides background information on In Flanders Fields, another good poem.
----------
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae
----------
What ever is the appropriate salutation, we hope you have a good Vetrans Day.

I was feeling that Happy Veteran's Day was a bit inappropriate as well, til all the e-card sites I went to had that on their cards. For my personal message, I just said something like "Thinking of you on Veteran's Day", since the card said Thank You already.
We greet the people we know with "Thank you for your service, Brother/Sister" because both my husband and I have been or are active duty. Brother or Sister fits and they really do deserve a thanks!
God bless,
Sallie
