Homeschool news from HomeSchoolBuzz

The HomeSchoolBuzz is a great place to check the latest news on homeschooling. Gary posts frequently about current events dealing with homeschooling. For example he has a post on a homeschooler winning a spelling bee in Montana and another post on a homeschooler winning a geography bee in South Carolina. Sarah Harmsworth correctly spelled apoplexy to win the spelling bee. She and a parent will be heading off to Washington DC for the contest at the national level. Trey Dendrinos knew that the Santa Ana was the hot dry wind down by Los Angeles and won the state geography bee.

Gary linked to an article about how homeschooling is good for gifted children, allowing them to grow as fast as they can.

There is also news from around the world. For example from the UK is a report of a homeschooling truancy scam. The opening line is: “Some local authorities are trying to cut their truancy rates by urging parents of persistent truants to say they will home educate, it is claimed.” In an ironic juxtaposition, is an article attacking homeschooling in the UK, claiming that: “One in four parents who home-educate children provides little or no teaching,” Maybe these are the kids who really are truant.

If you haven’t checked out HomeSchoolBuzz for awhile, or ever, give it a try.

Gary also runs the Homeschool Blog Watch, which lists recent posts from selected homeschooling blogs. This is a great way to quickly see what homeschoolers are blogging about. If you wish to get added, go here.
