Yet another push for compulsory preschool

Down under in Australia there is another push for making all little children go to preschool.

Susan Wight and her husband run Home Education Network, a homeschooling network in Australia. Susan has a good reponse on the push for homeschooling - Preschool for all? No thanks

I liked the third paragraph:

"University studies are often quoted to support the perceived academic benefits of preschool. What is not often mentioned is that, while these studies demonstrate preschool in a favourable light when compared with an impoverished home environment, preschool does not compare favourably with the average home environment." (The emphasis is mine.)

I have heard this point again and again. Yet those who push for preschooling either don't understand the studies, or are willing to mislead people.

It seems to me that more and more government bodies are trying to step into the roles of the parents and make everything mandatory. From preschool to vaccines, soon the rights of the parents will be seen as obsolete.

There clearly has been a trend towards more government control.

I have a couple reasons to hope. The first is that as more children are homeschooled they'll have a greater impact on society. Knowledge is power. And much of the power in the next generation will be held by those who were homeschooled.

A second reason I have for hope is that I think people will start to realize just how badly the government messes things up when it gets involved.
