I have been following Joanne Jacobs' blog on education for two to three years. In internet time this is a couple decades. She has interesting posts with the latest news in education. If you haven't checked out her blog before, give it a try.
Joanne wrote a book about the success of a charter school: Our School: The Inspiring Story of Two Teachers, One Big Idea, and the Charter School That Beat the Odds. The founders of the school targeted students who were falling through the cracks. The main goal of the charter school was to get these students on track for college. The school has had an amazing success rate. They have helped hundreds of students who were in danger of not graduating from high school to be accepted to college.
Just over a year ago I went to the kick off meeting for Our School. I reported on the meeting in our blog. Here is my review of the book.
Our School is now out in paperbook. At $11.66 from Amazon it is a great deal. Make sure your library has a copy. If you know of people considering starting a charter school, they would benefit from seeing the success others have had.
