Our oldest daughter is twelve, so we are still several years from her going off to college, but we think about it often. One of the big concerns in the rising cost of education of universities. Over the last couple decades tuition has climbed twice as fast as inflation.
My brother mentioned that MIT was in the process of putting 1,800 courses up on the internet. It was fun to be reading The Homeschooling Revolution this morning and noticed that Isabel had found (via Education and Homeschool News) a link to the MIT courses.
A Christian Science Monitor article said the MIT site was getting 1.4 million hits a month from all over the world. As more and more courses are put up online I'm sure this number will explode.
It is pretty amazing that anyone can get an MIT education for free. Maybe in a couple years one of our daughters will start checking out the MIT courses.
