Selections from Astronomy Picture of the Day - 4 Sep 06

I greatly enjoy The Astronomy Picture of the Day web site. I check it most every day. There have been some amazing pictures recently.

I remember watching Star Trek - The Original series and thinking some of the pictures looked pretty hokey. They seemed fake. The picture of The Matter of the Bullet Cluster reminds me of some of the pictures from Star Trek.

The picture of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1300 is beautiful. Billions, and Billions and Billions of stars! And there are Extra Galaxies, which shows the interaction of two galaxies.

On a much smaller scale is the Spitzer's Orion which has only a couple thousand stars.

And finally is a picture of Supernova Remnant E0102 which shows what happens to matter after a star explores.
