Dana, of Principled Discovery, clarifies the record. The Spelling's Commission on the Future of Higher Education from the Secretary of Education praised 375 years of education, implying that it was always public educatio. Dana reminds her readers that for 250 years there was no public education. There were private schools and homeschools. How quickly we forget.

Spunky focuses on a different problem with Spelling report. She warns against the increasing control of education by the government. I agree with Spunky, the government, and especially the federal government, should be reducing their control of education.

Cindy Downes says now would be a good time to check out a Maze. She found a link to The MAiZE which has the locations of mazes built out of corn fields. There are over a hundred mazes in the United States alone. We enjoyed the Dole Plantation maze a couple years back.

Recent there was some news about how college freshman are struggling with being on their own. Barbara Frank responds, in Some College Students Need Their Mommies, that part of the problem is the lives of many children are too scheduled and they don't learn how to make decisions and control their time.
