Gary North has a column at LewRockwell.com on Why Home Schools Are Superior to Private Schools. He says: "Over the years, I have watched the parallel development of Christian home schooling and Christian day schooling. I have come to the conclusion that home schools are superior on average." He then goes on to write about why he sees homeschooling as better than private schools.
One of the areas he sees as a clear advantage with homeschooling is motivation. Children who have been homeschooled tend to be more self motivated.
Gary recommends Dr. Arthur Robinson K-12 CD-ROM-based curriculum. The CDs provide a fairly complete curriculum for only $200. My father got us the set of CDs a couple years back and enjoyed them. We use them infrequently.
Another area in which Gary sees a clear advantage is that homeschoolers can buy better books that private Christian schools buy. He says: "The standard Christian school textbooks are baptized public school textbooks. If you think I'm wrong, see what they say about the anti-Federalists of 1787, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, World War I, World War II, and the other great crusades of the modern messianic American State."
We have never seriously considered private schools. It is sad to hear that private schools have some of the same problems public schools have.

yeah, I've heard that. In fact, a Christian friend of mine says that the only difference between the private Christian school and the public school is that the parents of the "bad" kids just don't show up to meetings. At the Christian school, they show up and blame the teachers, adminstrators and everyone but their child. Her children had a lot of difficulty in their brief time there and she finally decided not to pay that kind of money to get something available free across the street.
(not saying they're all like that...just one person's experience with one school.)
Every single homeschooler I know is intelligent, articulate, and way more mature than their public-school peers. Plus, homeschoolers tend to be able to relate better to adults and people of all ages. I think homeschooling is definitely the way to go. I'm 21 and recently married, and I am seriously considering homeschooling our kids if and when we have them.
