National Geographic has conducted a recent survey. The survey found that 89% of adults from ages 18 to 24 could find The United States on a map of the world. (Question 11) I really wonder about the other 11%. I also wonder about the 29% who couldn't find the Pacific Ocean.
One of the things we've done is to have a couple maps up on walls around the house. We have a map of The United States on the wall of the stairs going up to the room above our garage. And we have a map of the world in our kitchen. Every so often we'll be talking about some recent event and head over to one of the maps.
We've also bought a set of placemats (or here) which have maps on them. Depending on their moods, our daughters will often be more interested in the placemats of the Presidents of the United States than the United States.
