Participating in the Carnival of Homeschooling

I thought it might be helpful to share my goals for the Carnival of Homeschooling, and some of my expectations.

I see two main goals for the Carnival of Homeschooling. The first is it is a great way to expose homeschooling bloggers to blog readers. Second the carnival is a way to promote the benefits of homeschooling.

Here are some of my expectations for those who participate in the Carnival of Homeschooling:

1) Bloggers may submit only one post each week. It would be unfair to give one blogger several spots in the limelight.

2) Bloggers will not resubmit a post once it has appeared in a Carnival of Homeschooling.

3) The posts will be on topic. This is the Carnival of Homeschooling. The posts need to be about homeschooling.

4) The posts will be respectful. This is not the place to bash. We can have disagreements, but the Carnival is not the place to attack or mock a group of people. So we'll do the lawyer thing, this includes, but is not limited to, religious groups, ethnic groups, teachers, and political parties.

5) Participants will promote the carnival. They should at least mention the carnival in their blog.

One final thought, as you pick a post for the Carnival of Homeschooling, remember a large number of the readers will be from the general public. If you want people to return to your blog, it helps to be positive and entertaining.

As always I invite constructive feedback.

Hi, I have a question that I have not seen answered yet. Does the submission have to be something we've written in that last week?

Sometimes/most of the time my blog entries are 'timeless' and something I wrote a few months ago may still be good content for the current Carnival.

Thanks.

The short answer is no, submissions don't have to from the previous week or even last two weeks. Submissions can be from any time.

One of the basic guidelines for blog carnivals is that the same post doesn't appear in more than one carnival. We've included several older posts, some over a year old. But once they have been in one carnival, they shouldn't be submitted for another carnival.

I look forward to your submission.

It was recently pointed out to me that my comment above is a bit unclear. A single post should not appear in more than one Carnival of Homeschooling.

It is fine for a post to be in the Carnival of Homeschooling once, and also in other carnivals.

Okay I am going to bite the bullet and ask (Because surely I am not the only one confuzzled? Or perhaps I am!)

Does the submission need to be on any certain topic other than homeschooling? For example, is there ever a "Theme" to the posts or are they strictly homeschooling posts?

Good question.

In general most of the Carnivals of Homeschooling don't ask for posts on a particular topic. One of the great things about blog carnivals is the variety.

The hosts typically pick a theme to tie the posts to together. But the themes are not an aspect of homeschooling. For example this week Gary of HomeSchoolBuzz.com hosted the Carnival of Homeschooling. He used the 1940s to package the carnival posts together in a more interesting way. Otherwise a carnival might end up be a long list of links. Having a theme makes reading the carnival more interesting.

I hope you submit a post to a future carnival.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

quick question...if a blogger has more than one blog, can they submit an entry from each or just choose one?

Thanks!
