Keith Henson wants to put a half million tons of building materials a year into GEO at a cost of less than $100/kilogram. He wants to build a space based solar system which can provide cheap energy. He wants to use lasers to drive the rockets. His goal is for a rocket to fly twice a day.
He walked through a very detailed plan to launch laser driven rockets. He's looking at a $60 billion investment. This could produce a ton of energy. He is worried about the huge use of fossil fuels. His goal is space based energy production to replace fossil fuels. He believes that his approach would drop the cost of energy to a penny a kilowatt hour. At this price it is possible to produce synthetic fuel at prices lower than fossil fuels.
